MIOSHA Rules Regarding Crane Operator Training:
OSHA R408.11852 Training-Rule 1852
An employer shall train a prospective operator before the employee's assignment as an operator of a crane.
OSHA R 408.11853 Testing-Rule 1853
An employer shall test the knowledge and ability of an employee before authorizing him or her to operate a crane.
OSHA R 408.11854 Permits-Rule 1854
An employer shall provide an employee with a permit to operate a crane only after the employee meets the requirements prescribed in R 408.11852 and R 408.11853.

6.2 Human Resources
6.2.1 General
Personnel performing work affecting product quality shall be competent on the basis of appropriate education, training, skills and experience.
6.2.2 Competence, awareness and training
The organization shall:
- Determine the necessary competence for personnel performing work affecting product quality,
- Provide training or take other actions to satisfy these needs,
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the actions taken,
- Ensure that its personnel are aware of the relevance and importance of their activities and how they contribute to the achievement of the quality objectives, and
- Maintain appropriate records of education, training, skills and experience
