Selection of Product

Never exceed either the rated horsepower or the Full Load Amps. HP's are approximate using NEC charts at 1800rpm. Multiple motors can be controlled on the same motion (use total HP and total amps). Go to the next size if either is exceeded. Add "H" to part number for a hoist pre-set control (load brake style hoist). For safety do not use this series of product on hoisting without internal Weston type load brakes. If mechanical holding brake on the hoist is held open does the load drift down on the hoist? If it does drift, you definitely do NOT have an internal load brake or it is not functioning properly. Thoroughly read the manual and follow all the instructions and safety precautions.

(A) Size

The designation [ ] are past sizes. The designation ( ) are approximate future sizes. The size in bold are the sizes available as of the printing of this brochure. The other physical sizes are in order of introduction. The reduced size models may be available without notice. SEE UPGRADE PATH PHILOSOPHY INFORMATION.

(B) Regen Circuitry Included

Unique to PE is that all drives include the regeneration electronic transistor circuitry as standard and is not needed to be purchased separately. The EXTERNAL regen resistors are purchased separately.

(C) Regen Resistor

Horizontal motion control applications for bridge/trolley monorail etc., will require an external regen resistor banks (sold separately by PE) unless it is noted as being INTERNAL to the drive. PE external resistor's are designed with special electrical safety housings. Un-enclosed resistor's (such as those used for reduced voltage starting applications) are dangerous and not safe for use with any variable speed drive and should never be used. Unlike generic drives, PE has designed into its drive's the electronic portion of the regeneration circuitry. Most Weston Load Brake style hoists do NOT require regen resistors with PE drives (unique PE feature). PE discourages the use of external regen resistors on load brake hoists. Many worm gear hoists, with PE drives, may not require regen resistor ballasts either.

(D) Control Signal Interface

PE Drives are designed for overhead crane applications and they do not require separate interface cards. The control signal interface is built into the drive (not a separate add-on card or parts to loosen). 115vac is standard, all other voltages are available, including 24vac and 48vac or dc.

(E) Starting Torque

PE drives have the highest starting torque of any drive in the industry of 300%. Most generic drives are only 180% or less.

Upgrade Path Philosophy

Since PE designs drives specifically for the crane/hoist industry (no other company can claim this), PE has an industry UPGRADE PATH PHILOSOPHY: where existing installations will not become outdated in the near future! New models of PE drives are designed so that someday if someone wishes to UPGRADE to a newer model PE drive it will be easy! Same or very similar GANG,SET™ instant programming is planned to be standard along with Upgrade Brackets and TACX TERMINAL ADAPTERS when needed.

Upgrade Brackets

NO panel drilling is necessary in the field when upgrading from older PE drive sizes when using upgrade brackets! Part sizes are in [brackets] Present sizes are in bold and approximate future sizes are in (parenthesis). A TACX TERMINAL ADAPTER is also available so that very little, if any, wiring changes need be done on a control panel - even up to 10 years old! PE drives are designed to save you time and money and make your installation and training easy. Today and tomorrow!

Special TACX TERMINAL ADAPTER (see fig.2) is an option for use in field upgrades of older PE drives to modern PE drives (CX style) almost no wiring changes are needed in the field.

With PE UPGRADE PATH PHILOSOPHY™, you never have to worry about difficult upgrades or replacement of PE drives, even years down the road! The TACX TERMINAL ADAPTER matches older style PE drive terminal layout, labeling and function when used with the newer Micro-speed® CX™ models. Put the newest drives in your plant with added features and very little, if any, wiring changes. With GANG-SET™ future compatibility instant programming feature, your installation will be running quickly with no additional training time! Learn one PE drive and you know them all!
